Cleaning and Packing
Every year, many students struggle to pack and clean their rooms for move-out, especially if they are going into May with a messy room. This extended weekend is a great opportunity to bring home unneeded items and return to campus with empty boxes and suitcases. We cannot store any items for students over the summer. Any fridges, couches, decor that is being "passed down" to another student needs to go home with their family when they move-out.
When students leave behind a mess, it becomes my responsibility to clean it up. When families check out late, I have to wait around for them. When they struggle to pack their items, I stay up late with them and help them pack. I am happy to help students with these tasks by getting supplies, helping them stay on task, etc, but I have high expectations for them given the amount of time they have to prepare. ***If you are appreciative of anything that I have done on hall for your student this year, please cash that appreciation in now!!*** The best gift you can give to me is ensuring your student has packed their items, cleaned their room, and checked out with me in a timely manner! I have appreciated this hall of kiddos and parent support so much this school year and would love to end on a positive note.
Move Out
Juniors must submit the following form to indicate whether or not they intend to move out of their residence hall on Wednesday, May 20 OR Friday, May 22. Juniors who do NOT wish to participate in Commencement exercises must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC between 1:00pm and 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 20. If the 1-5PM block doesn't work for your family, please reach out to me. I have limited flexibility in the morning and evening of the 20th, but CCs are not able to accommodate any move outs on the 21st.
Juniors who wish to remain on campus after exams to participate in end-of-year activities and Commencement exercises must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC after commencement and before 3:00pm on Friday, May 22. No check-outs are permitted during the Commencement ceremony.
Seniors must move out of their residence hall and check out with their CC prior to 3:00pm on Friday, May 22. Expect Commencement to last until noon. That means seniors will have approximately three hours to finish checking out after moving out. You may not leave campus with your senior for lunch, then come back to move out later, etc. I will offer early morning slots for seniors who would like to finish all their packing and check out with me before commencement.
During the week leading up to moving out, students will have specific tasks to complete each day to ensure that they will be ready on the day they move out. The Final Week Checklist will be posted on the door of each room and will be checked each night by their CC. Please note that students will NOT be permitted to attend hall or campus events until their CC confirms that all tasks have been completed.
Once a student is ready to move out, their CC will stop by their room and confirm that they have properly followed all Checkout Procedures. Please note that the student and a legal guardian will both need to be present to sign the Room Condition Report to complete the checkout process. Once all checkout procedures have been completed, the student will immediately leave campus. Students who check out prior to Friday, May 22 may return to campus for the Commencement ceremony ONLY and should not return to campus for any other reason.
Senior Dessert
Class of 2026, you have put in an impressive amount of work these past two years and SAB has put together a special celebration to honor that! Join us on Friday, May 15th at 7:00PM on Bryan Lawn to celebrate the end of your NCSSM journey.
We hope you'll take the time to come out and dress up (dressy casual attire), enjoy some sweet treats, and appreciate the company of your classmates before commencement.
End of Year Activities:
Students who remain on campus May 20 & 21 are invited to enjoy a two day end-of-year celebration that will feature an outdoor field day, glow-in-the-dark kickball, an inflatable water slide, a bounce house, food trucks, sweet treats, and one last Hill Street block party! Please encourage your student to attend these events to help say goodbye to the Class of 2026 and to close out a great school year!
Commencement
Please join us as we graduate our 45th class of residential students on Friday, May 22 at 9:00am on Watts Lawn. The ceremony is open to NCSSM seniors and their families. We welcome the junior class to participate in Commencement, though junior attendance is not mandatory unless they are moving out on the 22nd. No tickets are required UNLESS inclement weather necessitates moving indoors. If Commencement is moved indoors, each senior will receive 4 wristbands: 2 wristbands for guests to attend Commencement in the Charles Eilber Physical Education Center (PEC), and 2 wristbands for guests to watch the Commencement livestream in locations around campus: the Auditorium, Lecture Hall, and Music Suite. If the ceremony is moved indoors, juniors (outside of Marshals and those performing music) will not participate in the ceremony and will move out of their rooms. Juniors and their families will be able to view the livestream of Commencement from off campus. As a reminder, all students must move out of their residence hall rooms and check out with their CC no later than 3 p.m. on Commencement day. The entire event will be live streamed on the NCSSM YouTube Channel. For more information about Commencement please visit: https://www.ncssm.edu/commencement
